April 26

Solomon Island to Deal MD 38.7 miles

The forecast for today looked pretty bleak lots of wind and rain late in the day so we got up at 6 and ran early North off the coast.  There was some fog so I was running with Radar on and Navigation lights on.

On the map there was a white Buoy system about 1 mile from shore I did not notice it and I was running approaching a corner of it.  Out of the fog I see 3 large what appears to be hoover craft type boats.  Plus one small Patrol style boat.  The small boat I could see on radar the other three I could not.  I stopped the boat and radioed asking for instructions.  Got no response but I decided the best thing to do was run for water away from the marked corner I was approaching.  Plus it was away from the damn boats.  Never a word from the patrol boat nor the other boats.  The Patrol boat just stopped at the buoy and watched me go.

The rest of the ride was quite some fishing boats on radar.  So the radar does work just do not count on it around navy bases I guess.

Docking is going well I must admit I do not even panic like i used to just come in and nice and slow.

We have had to use the button starter most of the time now and it is OK and it does work but still bothers me.  So in the Marina where are staying I asked to have someone look at it most likely not going to happen,  But that is way of the world for me.

After arriving here had a lunch at the restaurant, checked the oil changed some ropes around bought a new adaptor for the power.  I hope soon to stop buying stuff this is getting to be expensive!

Count

1 guy said nice small boat for the loop at the marina shop

8 sea gulls posing as crab pots

15 crab pots Not a lot for a change.

3 cruising yachts moving

4 crab boats

1 barge looked like coal

3 navy vessels ( they did not hit me or shoot me)

2 sailboats moving

13 turns on my route note 5 coming out of dock and 6 coming into dock so only 2 turns for navigation.

1 set of cliffs (first set of bluffs on the whole trip)

Here is what I saw all morning. Note I prefer the second view!

  1. So those Navy boats didn't show up on your radar? Pretty cool.
