Beaufort to North Charleston Anchorage 65 miles

As noted above a very long day. We got off to a great start again being out before the official start of the day.  With favorable tides the GPS said we could make Charleston byco 4:30 I was sure this would not happen alas I was right.  The tides shifted against quickly and we had arrive times as late as 8 PM.  Our goal was Downtown marina but there was no way.  We chose to stop just 7 miles short in an anchorage in North Charleston at 5:30.

After dropping anchor we have faced all directions but due south.  The tide and wind are shifting the boat around a lot.  One anchor alarm has already gone off though I have not been able to see a noticeable shift in the anchor. I have therefore concluded that the alarm is just the shifting on the radius of the anchor.  The main GPS seems to agree with this conclusion although it is showing a lot of swing.  The winds are strong and the current is huge here so some movement just be expected.

I had to beep my horn at two vessels today.  One was up on such a steep plane that doubt he could see as I came around the corner.  I was sticking close to the right edge of the channel and had no where to run to except to cross directly infront of him.  As he was moving at least 20 MPH this I did do.  So I honked twice he then corrected his course.  The second time a oncoming cruise was dead center on course at a bend and just never turned at the bend in the course.  This put him headed directly at me.  Again I was right against the bank so I honked at him once signaling what I hoped would be a port to port pass he still did not wake up and moved to my side found myself in 4 ft of water and too close to him for comfort.  Midpoint in the pass he seemed to see me and started a turn but it too late and he left me a huge wake.

The only other problem was dolphin watchers that stopped mid channel and just wondered around.  I had to stop for them.  I did not beep as the waved twice at me and then left the area.

In one of the gates there were 3 crab traps floating right mid channel where all the big boats like to hang out.  I saw them at the last second and moved fast enough to miss them.  At the next marker I saw an oncoming boat so I paged him three times with no response, so as last ditch effort I just stated the hazard.  He came back right away after that and about 2 minutes later came back with a thank and stated what I told was correct and announced the correct maker number.

Now we are at anchor I have 3 alarms for drag but I have a lot of rope out so I hope I am just swinging on the anchor and there is no real drag..

Note the gray missy rainy day in the pictures
