April 13

Very short today as it is depressing.

The new mechanic showed up at 9:30 a very pleasant surprise and got right to work.  He took the pump out of the box and as soon as I saw I knew I was dead it was the wrong pump.  The new one had a gear on it and require one with a pulley.

Low and behold the pump if purchased as unit is back ordered 6 months.  The Marina found the model of the pump and ordered it.  The pulley was ordered from MerCruiser it can only be delivered to his shop.  So the mechanic is going to pick it up and then come here to installed.  I did some research tonight I could find both the pump and pulley at many sites so I believe we should be OK tomorrow if the parts arrive on time.  I am beginning to lose faith.

On the good news the mechanic started the engine right up with the key.  The issue was the neutral position switch. NO Duh as far I was concerned it was a little loose and the throttle just a little out of place.

On the bad side he said the bilge pump looked odd.  So I cleaned the bilge for a second time since I owned the boat and the pump works again the problem was the pump suction was plugged up something bad.  Watched it all afternoon and it is working well now.  Clean it again tomorrow by flushing it water and maybe get all the guck out of it.  (note guck is a technical term).

Now the new problem is the packing gland around the main shaft.  What a pain in the ass.  The technician said something I was wondering about and that was not enough threads left so repack.  I agree so that is scheduled.

Finally I guess we can get it all fixed hope for tommrow but it it is likely be tough to get it all done and out with enough time to make distance so must likely a night here again.
