May 5
Atlantic City to Manasquan Inlet (Pleasant Point Beach). 57 miles
Tried to get an early start this morning but luck was not really with us. Dianne navigation systems battery was not right and we had to wait a good 20 minutes for it to charge up before leaving. I used to the time to remove the water hookup and the rewind the Electic cord. Once that all was done we were off.
Leaving was a little tricky as the tide and wind were both against us. Once on the ocean the wind was not our friend. We bumped and Thumped along with me gripping for the first 4 hours. Then about noon the swells calm down and became roller. It was so far that I gave up and increased the throttle to makes better time.
For the first time I have a gripe about the guide book. This marina is very poor although the price is good. There only bathrooms day and no showers. The dock is fixed so we have to monitor the ropes and the tide is high. They also do not have an electric hookup so rather than running the generator we decided to eat out. The wakes from passing boats are horrible. but the restaurant was good.
I believe today like yesterday was a 4 turn day. Meaning leave harbor make a turn about 1/3 of the way make turn, 2/3 of the way make turn and then make turn into harbor. This gave me time to bitch about the wind the price of diesel, the amount of fuel I was burning plus worry about other crab traps after seeing a single buoy that we just missed.
Seen today while cruising:
- 5 large fishing vessels with nets
- 3 cruisers
- 2 small fishing boats
- and way off in the distance 3 ships
- infinite beach homes and unlimited beaches
Learned today
- Always check the plug on the Dianne’s tablet
- Never complain about Dianne the train is very painful
- Always trust your charts they do a better job of knowing where you are than you do.
- Watch your radar it will show boats behind you.
