Mansaquen Inlet to New York City (Really Liberty State Park) 44.6 miles
Well we finished up the Atlantic part of the Adventure today without any problems. Some minor where did that boat come from but nothing major. Really it is boat that appear out of the rain and fog and from the back quarter of my boat that are surprises. So In reality I did not make any blunders and no one yelled at me.
We left early as the weather is to going to get really bad tonight with 11 foot waves and 30 mile per hour gusts. Not something I want to play in.
Leaving I forgot to untie the back stern rope and that caused some excitement (read that as Cursing) but no damage. I had to have Dianne work the controls to get the rope loose enough for me to get the knot undone and then it was all good.
The Sail up that part of the coast was easy. It deep all the way along so we stayed with a half mile of coast all the way along. This way we were out of all the boat lanes. Once in the harbor it was a little confusing as there are multiple channels and lots of ferries and ships and barges to worry about. But the truth is it is well marked and all I had to follow my route and we fine.’
The route took us under the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge, past Statue of Liberty, Elis Island up the Hudson River to Marina, Interestingly we are right next to 2 boats on the loop and one of them is a another Ranger Tug. It is bigger and newer but still has the classic appearance.
As were moving by 6 this morning we arrived here at noon. So after taking care of the boat we hopped onto a ferry to Elise Island and Statue of Liberty. I wish the weather was better but the tours were great anyways.
Seen today
- 5 ships lined up coming into New York Harbor
- 2 petrol ships anchored and unloading into bargs
- 1 container ship Anchored
- 6 other ships
- 6 Ferrys moving people in the harbor
- 1 hot tub tour boat leaving with people sitting in hot tubs to do a tour of New York Harbor
- 1 kid that cried the whole way across the harbor on the ferry to see the statue of Liberty
- 5 cruisers
- 3 tug boats
- 2 barges moving (many more loaded or loading)
- 2 light houses
- A large Suspension bridge
- 1 big cruiser with a very Rude driver running too fast and leaving us a huge wave that knocked stuff off our counters.
Heard on the Radio
- Coast Guard hailing incoming ships for inspections
- Coast Guard chasing off a Looper for getting too close to the Statue of Liberty and interfering with traffic of the ferry. (the guy said sorry we were just taking a picture and we will leave). This exchange kept us moving right on by. Surprising me no one hailed us at all.
