Lake Simco to bottom of Lock 43 43 miles 2 locks

Started the day a little chilly but warm enough during the night.  It was still warm enough to wear short sleeve shirts and shorts for me.  Dianne of course is still in a hoody.  and long pants.

Went right out into the Lake at the start of the trip and headed North to fill the tank with Diesel.  The marina was open and did have Diesel so we filled up put in 44 liters and it cost 131 or 10 gal and $103 in real US dollars.  But the good news is that the wind and current was us today so we made more than 5.8 miles per gallon which is considered excellent for loopers.

We started the morning with a computer log that showed 37 gallons in the tank.  A boat indicator that said 63 gallons.  After filling the tank (which should hold 75 gallons) the log showed 47 gallons the indicator showed 55 gallons.  So I reset my log to a full tank of 60 gallons at the start of the day and ended up with both the boat gauge and the log saying there was 56 gallons aboard.

In ship repairs some vandals attached a RUMP (Man who name I can not write) sticker on the back of the boat that was required removal after filling the tank.

Travelled through Lake Couchiching and Sparrow Lake both were scenic as all get out. But both require a lot of attention to avoid rocks that loom just outside the channel.  The last lock was a 50 foot drop which is huge for a single lock but was very smooth due to design of the bottom outlet.

Seen Today

1 log floating that required maneuvering to avoid

1 swing bridge that was broken and stopping all the nice big boats to stop   But our cute little tug passed right under no problem

1 swing bridge that required 3 horn toots to open.  While waiting in the current to keep my boat away from the bridge I had to do a 360 turn.

1 lock master that said I slid right in place perfectly (why I am I fixing the stern thruster?)

1 flock of seagulls and other birds that looked like fishing net strung out in my path

1 boat anchored waiting for a fix on the swing bridge and 2 talking about it on the radio

5 boats moving

3 bridges that we passed under

3 swans

rocks everywhere

  1. Great that you're getting to visit with family. Things here are very hot with little rain. Missing y'all (actually just Di) and looking forward to your return. Travel safe.

  2. They cake vote when we left indicated that Dianne would be missed but me so this is normal. I am kind of used to it now. PS sorry my grammar and spelling are horrible but there are so many hours in a day and just type and post. Therefore I am sure my writing annoys english professors.
