Swift Rapids Lock to Starport Marina (In Port Severn ON) 15 miles 1 marine Railroad
Started off slow this morning as we knew it would be a short day. Got up and made coffee and then put in route to the marina in Port Severn arriving here around Noon.
As we had time this morning I made apple Pancakes and I had a second cup of coffee.
Started out to the Big chute. On arrival someone on a speaker said something that sounded like come right in BLAA BLAA. I yelled back please repeat and got nothing. I did what I normally do when I do I did not understand instruction and that is look around and try something. As there are limited options in at a marine railroad I did the right thing and drove into a what looks like a sling. They lifted the back of the boat with the sling and big railway car with a cradle came up under the boat and lifted it up a slight hill and down a big hill.
With a water cooled inboard I yelled should shut off the water inlet and they yelled back if you want too. Priming the water cooled pumps can be a pain so I shut off all the inlets and OFF you go. Kind of weird looking down at road from a boat.
Then there is a danger sign that says “DANGER Narrow channel with Strong Current”. So I sounded by horn made the turn and started down a small set of rapids. Right after the current caught me a small dingy started up. Now I did stay to the right as best I could, but currents bounced me around a lot. We did not hit but I was closer than I was comfortable being. They did seem concerned as they wave at us before Dianne waved. Me I was swing the wheel back and forth trying to keep the boat straight. Fools sometimes are lucky and these guys were.
At the Marina I have been trying to get the service guy to talk with me to confirm the appointment to fix the stern thruster but no joy. I have talked to the guy who is scheduled to do it on the 23rd but he declined to even look at it. So it is scheduled but guarantees. I guess I just have to wait and take my chances.
Seen today
- 5 cruisers 3 going up stream and 2 going down like us
- 4 people fishing from shore
- 3 small crafts running around the area
- 1 small water falls coming into the river
- A very relieved driver of a boat when we did not fall off the railroad.

If you had dropped an anchor there we would be reading a whole different story going forward I am sure. Also, I dare you to pet those dogs you found in your last picture.
