Midland to Fry Pan Bay (Beausoleil Island) 12 miles

A very short run to the island but it was very busy day.  Counted over 50 boats during the travel.  Most followed common sense but some not so much.  Becoming accustomed to these problem.  The entrance back into the bay is unmarked but narrow with rocks.  I came in slowly and watched the GPS and sonar all the way in had no problems.  Now tied up to Government docks with limited WiFi so I assume this will not be posted till tomorrow.

Last night after tying up a small 14 ft boat came and the guy was struggling to tie off his lines.  I went out to help.  Boy was he mad.  Turns out a big yacht had swamped him while fishing and was scared his tiny boat would sink.  After visiting with him he calmed down and turned into a nice guy.  I gave him a boat card and off he went.

Last night was not quite on dock.  Sounded like a woman did not like the fact she was Midland with a broken car (I think).  She yelled for a good hour at Josh and then a Mikel.  I was surprised she did lose her voice will all the yelling and screaming.  But it was interesting…

After arriving at the government docks in the bay we tied up.  Visited with a few of the boaters here.  When for a long hike and then swam a little, the water is warmer than toasty.

No phone and no wifi today so could not post.

Frying Pan Bay to FryingPan Island (Henrys Fish restaurant) 23 miles

Last night spent time talking the the GOLD looper next to us at the dock they have completed the loop 1.5 times.  They felt that we were moving too fast and encouraged us to slow down.  Suggested that the Tennessee River was the spot to waste a month or two.  I guess we are considering it.

The sleeping last night was much more quite than the night before.  No drama and no screaming women.  I even knocked the bug count down before leaving for a walk evening.  Therefore it was a comfortable night for us.

The drive here was very difficult to chart as there are so many channels and dead ends and islands with numerous rocks sticking out.  Then the stupid programs throws me out a couple times while plotting due to incorrect screen touches by the operator (IE ME if there was any doubt.). As normal there were conflicts between my chart and Diannes automatic route generated route. It was a compromise once I just could see the channel well enough to attempt it and once her route went outside of the islands and narrow inside channel so we did that.

After arriving we found out no diesel in the area.  This lead to long discussion on how far we could go and how much diesel we had aboard.  In the end we agreed that we had enough for another 4 days  so long there is sand in the fuel tank and log is still good.

Seen today;

  • 25 boats moving around us
  • 2 cruiser one of which passed us without a radio call.  Good thing for him I do shoulder checks because I getting ready to plug up his path in a narrow channel.  I slowed down to make sure there would be space.
  • 1 speed boat making a very poor pass too close in a narrow channel.
  • Heard 2 warnings about thunderstorms and small crafts advisory for this afternoon
  • 1 balloon floating in the water pretending it was buoy just to mess with me.
