Parry Sound to Pointe AuBaril 35.6 miles

The weather forecast was horrible yesterday so we wondered if would get off.  However this morning the water was dead calm so off we went.  The wind build during the day but it never really reached what could be called bad conditions.

When we arrived at Pointe AuBaril we tried to marinas and they both said no space.  So we proceeded to public dock and because we are only 25FT we were allowed to stay for only 14.75 Canadian a bargain.  I do not understand the marinas response I could see tons of empty slips you would think they would be pleased to rent out for the night.  But the claim was no space.  All this means is we will run the generator a little bit today aside from that no problems.

The scenery is spectacular here.  Lots of tiny island and bays to explore if you have the nerve to leave the channel.  Lots of premium anchorages also.  I know people love to anchor out and get the free night.  Me I like the walk in town and comfort of not worrying about anchor drift and trying up to a dock is easy.

Had several boat passes today that were at best too close and too fast.  We have also noticed the Georgian F.U. signal.  This is where you drive a big boat at high speed close to a smaller craft and leave behind a huge wake.  This rocks the little boat so much that stuff falls all over the place, and the people in the small boat all grab onto something solid.  Then comes the final part of the exercise, look directly at the people in  small boat, smile broadly and wave.

Seen today:

  • 21 boats only 8 while in the main part of the lake and remainder in various states of the GB F.U. signal while entering the harbor.
  • 1 jet ski
  • 1 working tow boat
  • cottages all out in bay with no roads listings for 600,00 to 3,000,000 range listing
  • Boats selling for 20,000 much smaller than ours
  • Free advice on how to enjoy the trip by slowing down
  • 3 more cute boats now somewhere around 42 of those things.
