Lock 8 to Campbellford Lock 12. (about 12 mile)

Woke early and out of bed early but it did little good as we are still waiting on the lock master to start at 9:00 AM.  So had pancakes filled with apples.  Lots of coffee so the morning was off to good start.

With so much time available I decided to do some boat Maintenance.  This did cause some frustration but some good did come from it.  The first job was to add oil to the transmission.  This was easy and it took only a little bit so leak has slowed down a lot.  I suspect the air bleeder working better in combination with leak stop and packing around the bottom all helped.  In addition the bilge is oil free so the padding is working and catching the oil that does leak.  Then checked the water intake for engine.  It was full of weeds which I cleaned out and unplugged the screen.  This was the good news. The bad part was the bolt would go back in what a pain in the ass.  The problem was the first thread in the strainer pulled out and the bolt could not reach the second thread to pull down.  However last time I took it apart I bought 2 bolts one 1/4 inch longer tried that and it worked right off the bat.  So a full 15 minutes was overcome in 2 minutes with a spare bolt.

Then into the first lock.  The cursing there was caused by the fact that no confirmation email from Parks Canada on the lock pass.  The guy said no problem just go ahead.  Rafting was still required.  The next lock was also a piece of cake.  However the double lock was an 1 hour wait to get in.  Then 30 minutes to lock through.

We stopped at the top with the plan to spend the night.  Rode our bikes to Campbellford town and back.  There we found the town dock had power and showers which makes us more comfortable as well within walking distance to great fish and chips so we moved there.   Docking twice to get close enough to power outlets to make it worthwhile..

Note how high the door is about the boats are in crowded lock though.

  1. THANKS FOR THE GOOD WISHES. Maybe with luck I can shame someone into fixing it. But found out today the other ranger tug we have been hanging around lost theirs to same problem today.
