Mackinac Island to Petoskey MI 49 Miles

Woke early to a calm day so we were eager to get a good start as we knew it would be a long day.  On mornings like this Dianne is always eager to start so it is only a granola bar breakfast the second day in a roll for such a treat.  Off before 7:15.  Bumped the a post on the way out which turned me backwards to I had to a 360 degree turn, I accomplished this without using the bow thrusters a great feat is a small channel.

The day was calm but misty so I fired up the radar and ran all three screens.  Lots of chatter on the radio as we left harbor this boat ferry boat leaving harbor that tug coming up.  Of interest to me was the Arthur Murrey a laker approaching the same bridge as I was.  Lakers are even bigger than the freighter on the Chesapeake.  I could see her but did not believe how far away she was as looked huge to me.  The Marine Control that hailed her only wanted to know her anchors were secure.  I hoped so as if she dropped one even close to the spash would swamp me.  we passed each other with comment or contact.

The rest of the trip was uneventful.  My route was 2 hours longer than the automatic route on Dianne system so I followed her route.  It was a little tough as I had navigate around some unknown  wreaks and rocks, but that is way she pays me the big bucks.  I was glad I had turned on the radar as several small crafts passed at speed and it let me practice radar navigation.

Bay Harbor Lake Marina is not what I expected.  They are charging me only 25 per day as there is no electric hookup.  So was thinking old and bead up.  It is brand new and because I asked for 10 put us on a new dock where the power is not turned on yet.  I can not even afford to ask the price of the homes here, they are huge and I am sure some of the landscaping cost more than my home.  Just walking the distance to the harbor Master office I saw many boats with more than 1800 HP on the back.  Compared to the 15 HP we run with it is huge.  But we still have travelled a far ways in “Cute Little” boat.  The count for which is not at 69.
