Cape Gerardo to 7 mile above Caro on Ohio 58.8 miles average fuel was 11.5 mile per gallon
The average was lowered from the 15 miles per gallon on Mississippi to just the above 11.5 for the last 7 miles today. We did not do bad on the Ohio the average was around the expected 4.5-4.8 but it was a big hit. Again we are anchored and the current is something to see. Swimming tonight we stuck close to and held onto the boat as letting go could be a very long walk back up river before attempting to swim back.
The trip here was again somewhat scenic lots of beaches and shore files but not a lot of bluffs or rocks. There were a few rocky spots on the river marked as hazard areas that I threaded but I think that as added caution only.
Traffic was heavy today saw only one other cruiser and no fishermen. But 22 tows moving up river and followed 1 down. Mostly they are moving empty barges to load with grain once the harvest comes in.
The original plan was to move only 34 miles but we extended to get through a lock tomorrow and arrive at our first dock in just over 3 0r 4 days. Seems like a long time to go with AC and fuel.
It was less hot today so I had only to keep my hat wet to stay cool. Generator is still working but do worry about it each time it starts up I am nervous but it seems to work just fine. Dinner was pork chops with onion and pepper gravy with fried potatoes and carrots.
Coming into the anchorage was a challenge it started with a huge thunder storm. This hide a barge behind me and until Dianne pointed it out. Then we had to come in basically blind with GPS and limited guidance. I dropped the anchor is 9 feet of water and it held and we sat out the worse of the storm. Then Dianne said she wanted to be closer to shore so I pulled the anchor and drove in behind some anchored barges on the upstream side. Dropped anchor and waited all was good. Then about an hour later when I check our position we still where we started but the barges where 600 ft further downstream. On closer examination they had swung upstream due to wind and then swung downstream with the wind died down. Boy I am glad I came in late If I had come in earlier I could have easily anchored right where the barges could have swung into the boat.
