7 miles up Ohio to Paducah KY 38 fuel average 4.9 Miles per Gallon

Yesterdays ending was wild with wind, rain and thunder.  We could see lighting to the north west as got ready for dinner and than am second storm came over us during the night.  On good thing I figured out our correct offset for the boat.  We draw 3.5 but the sonar is 1.5 feet under water.  So when the sonar reads 3 feet we are really in 4.5 feet.  This was the case last night and is something I expected and always prayed I was correct on as I had been in shallow water before.

Even with the strong current the anchor held all night and there was no movement at all with the wind and rain.  The same can not be said for the barges they were closer this morning than last night we went to bed, however still a lot further away than when anchored upstream of them.

After a quick bite and coffee off we went to the dam although just 7 miles it took use over 1.5 hours to get there.  Normally it would have been 1 hour.  Diesel consumption was way down too only 3.5 miles to a gallon.  Reason Current!

We called the Olmsted lock and told them when we were 20 minutes out and had the lock open and ready for us.  This means the lock took less than 15 minutes to get up.

We drove past the town of Metropolis today also, and yes it was named for Superman.  It has a casino that brings back canoe memories as stayed there on our last trip down the river.  So that was fun.  It also has a fort build to defend the Ohio river valley during the war of 1812.  That was cool.

Paducah is also a very historic place to stop.  We walked along about a mile of murals, toured the river history museum and tried to drive a barge there plus saw a steam locomotive with a postal car attached.  Then a cajan dinner with a bloody Mary and I am sleepy. So much for a good day.

PS I know I am in Kentucky as I am watching a guy try to bow fish from the dock.  I hope I do not mistaken for a carp when I walk to the bathroom later.
