Aug 20 mileage 24 miles to anchorage at Mile 308 on Tombigbee river from Columbus Marina

I will do the week in short point form

-Drove home in just over 9 hours on the a week ago Thursday

-rented a car as on a return trip with unlimited miles costs just over $500

-cheapest to rent the slip for month but it was in the afternoon sun and the boat got really hot during the day.  In the morning it was fine,  This was part of the reason we left the marina today the thinking was is we were to sweat why not sweat a few miles down river.

-Dianne had three appointments plus getting her hair dressed.  I had one we both aced our yearly check up.

-Got updated shot for COVID flu shot at the same time felt tried for a couple of days.

-ordered replacement power cord and new navigation light for top of boat plus what I needed to install them

-had a fairwell party on Friday before we left

-got some instruction on how to hook up wires

-Aug 19 left the house and drove back to the boat.  Arrived late had an Applebee’s dinner for two and did grocery shopping.

Aug. 20

-Woke early and borrowed the complimentary car and returned the rental

-then had a breakfast mexican wraps and good coffee at the UPDown cafe

-Installed the new lamp

-added oil to transmission it did not need but put some in anyways

-filled water tank

-Called the lock and they were ready for us and off we went.

-the sonar stopped working while we were gone.  Spent 2 hours finding transducer and then trying to figure it out.  Gave up cleaned the well it was in,  Then thought ever other time I had checked there I had seen water threw in three cups water and it started to work just fine.  Not sure how much water I need to keep in the well but clearly some.  I guess the docks were hot and with the roof dry.

-we are anchored out both bow and stern and the anchor light now works so if some one hits us I can say your fault not me.

Aug 21

47 miles and 2 locks 3 barges, 2 fishing boats and 3 cruiser today.

Last to bed at 7:30 as sunset is 6:45 this seemed late and it took some work to figure out what to do till finally we went skinny dipping and climbed into bed.

It was hot and when anchored there is no AC so the goal is to keep windows and door and skylights open.

The anchor light worked great we had four boats pass after dark and no came close.

We started out with a quiet day.  The first lock saw us coming and opened and let us in but never talked to us.  The second lock did opened for us as we pulled in so locking was fast both times.  My driving is getting so good I seldom us the thrusters as they could jam with all the duck weed floating around.

Sonar worked all day and we added more water to it this afternoon and the picture became even better.

Talked to a fellow looper Shady Lady they left Columbus Marina today and caught up to us early this afternoon.  They have a similar plan to our’s that is to anchor out and arrive in Demopolis tomorrow. But as their boat is faster they stopped much earlier that we did.

At the last lock the lock master advised us to stop at Demopolis as there are Hurricanes heading this way. He was basically saying take a week off and see where they are heading before starting out.  Seems like good advice but I was unaware of any named storms that were threatening us.  Guess I will have to check the weather channel soon.

Saw a lot of duck weed floating in the river today it really bothered me so I checked my stainer and removed some minor about of junk.
