Sept 2
Paris Landing to Birdsong Marina 38 miles time 5.5 hours
Today was a repeat of yesterday no problems but a seemly endless run on the water. Kentucky Lake is very wide but the actual channel is narrow for the most part less than 1/4 of width. Once out the channel the depths falls fast. It is possible to go from 50 to 5 feet in less than 50 feet outside of the markers. Often they did not take down the trees when the flooded the valley so tree tops are sometime visible and in some places just labeled as submerged timber. There are also a lot of markings for submerged bridges, roads and houses. It is possible to see the structures on GPS if you have the guts to look in the marked areas. Me I like to stay in the channel even more now that I know what it feels like to ground. I am still feeling bad about that mistake.
Saw on facility today and a couple of tow boats running around it. Plus 28 fishing. boats out running or anchored. A lot more boats than yesterday but still light traffic.
Dianne and I are discussing when to plan a trip home looks like we will off the boat around the 8th of Sept for about 10 days. But we will see depending on weather and how I am feeling about the long days. I could always speed up a little bit and spend a little more fuel. Right now we seem to be doing OK.
Paris landing claim to fame is an old bridge taken down to mark the location and saved it rather than flooding it. Also is where Bedford Forest the Confederate Calvary General set up a couple of Cannons and captures some US navy boats the last captured in the war. This was after Sherman had marched to Atlanta, captured it and then started for Savannah. So it was pretty much a meaningless event but local history is important and they mark the site.
