Sept 24
Anchorage at mile 177.5 to Bobby’s Fish Camp 55 miles
A very long days expected.
Last night I set a stern anchor by dropping a long bow anchor backing into the anchorage dropping a stern anchor, then setting the stern by pulling/tightening the bow anchor. This morning I had to reverse the procedure as both anchors were set in place during the night. So release the front pull, by hand the boat over the stern anchor and release it from the mud. Then pull with the winch the bow over the front anchor and release it from the mud and up. This worked as planned and took a 10 minutes to complete.
Underway there were minor differences not a lot of bluffs or rocks today must sandy muddy shoreline. There were some beaches but not as many as yesterday. Notices some trees are starting to change color today a sign of fall.
Saw two deer a doe and a fawn. Saw lots of Egrets non of them wanted their picture taken. It being Friday the fishing people were all out running their boats up and down bouncing us around. Did not see a tow today did see on two cruiser headed north and 1 boat headed south. There were 12 fishing. boats.
At the Bobby’s no one was on the dock or on the phone we arrived and finally raised someone on the phone. They indicated that wanted fuel so they pulled in behind us. A guy in an ATV arrived and said he would turn on the pump for us. I was visiting and the guy yelled from the ATV so do you want diesel? In Canada we had to. get off the boat to fill, in New York they had fill the boat, in Alabama we are to fill and tend the pump too.
A third boat arrived and needed fuel so tied next to pump so now there is a big boat in front and a huge boat behind us. Same song and dance with fueling. Then during dinner a small fast bass boat pull pass us at dock at speed. The guy in the small boat sounds his horn and yells slow down. The little boat speeds up and shakes us even more. Then the guy docks at the ramp and starts yelling at the fellow in the huge boat. I thought it would be fight but fishing boat guy just hauled his boat out and left. Amazing that being rude by slamming boats against the dock and being corrected offended the guy so much he wanted to fight it out.
