Midway Marina to Anchor on Tombigbee River 30 miles 3 locks
The big millagae days had to stop we running too late and I was exhausted so sooner or later I would make another mistake. We discussed and decided to break today’s trip into to days it was to be 60 miles which is rather long day anyways. We selected to choices a marina a little less than half way, and here after the locks just Half way. When we reached the marina it still before noon so we decided to keep moving. Hence in the boat lingo we are now swinging on a hook. Funny but another boat was already swinging on hook in the desired spot so kept on moving up river and found another on even more remote. Been here for more than 1 beer plus an hour and no movement on the anchor alarm. So we are good.
Entering the second lock we radio the lock and the lock master said he gave another Pleasure craft the OK to go in and would follow him. I looked around and sure a big (I mean BIG) was right beside and passing us. This is silly for a couple of reasons, he is not going to get any faster by beating us in and coming that close in small channel is risky as current wind and errors happen all time and if I don’t know you are there then I will hit you. Then coming out of the lock he raced off. As the next lock was only 4 miles on and the lock master told us he had notified the lock down river this was waste of fuel as were to locked together. As expected he got there first and had to wait for us. Now my last complaint it is generally understood not to leave a giant wake in. the narrow channels as it erodes the walls and the rebounds makes following boats hard to control. He did this to me twice so some day some where he need a favor from a boater and they tell him off.
Scenery today was flat marshy and green. Mangrove like trees are now common in the larger shallow lakes and have passed 2 wood chippers.
We will arrive in Columbus Mississippi tomorrow and return home for 10 days hopefully things will be cooler here when we come back lately it has been over 90 most days.
