Cayo Costa St. Park through Fort Mymers, anchor after Franklin Lock, to Lebella and final stop in Moore Haven FL 138 mile average 5.4 per gallon

OK I skipped a day here just because I was exhausted and had a lot to when we finally stopped.

The anchorage at Cayo Costa turned out to be a good choice. Despite some wind and tides the boat did not move during the night.   The double anchor tie worked great again.  During the drop the winch stopped working.  So I did a lot of the work by hand. It even popped the breaker once.  After dinner I took it apart and sprayed some Rust buster into the crank case and clutch to clean out dirt.  Next morning it started working better.  Today it worked like new again always a good thing when a fix works for the best.

However no rest for the wicked the power surge did something to the anchor light and looked like it something to the navigation lights too.  So I worked on that problem for an hour or so with no luck, other then finding a reset switch that made the panel lights work again.  To stay legal and safe, I jury rigged a bug lamp to the job and it worked just fine.  Today after taking the system apart I found the problem, the surge burnt out the new LED I installed 3 weeks ago.  Just another small job to fix whenever I find the part.

Last night it hot so we went swimming. off the back of the boat.  The guy one boat over (there were 4 in the anchorage), said,”look at those F,,,,ing NUTS!”  Then shouted at us about Gators being these waters.  Not new news we have been in gator water for the last 2 months and I did check before going in with a flashlight as I was taught to. But we said OK we will get out which was our plan anyways as it was just quick rinse off.  But I felt the guy could have been much more polite.

While on that subject had a dinner in small bar in Moore Haven and it was wild.  The first couple I spoke with were very polite then a guy came in with a MAGA Hat and Shirt, (one OK but both is a little over the top).  He Asked use if were on one of the 50 foot boats.  He seemed to calm down when I told him we were on a smaller vessel just 25 ft.  Then on the dock I said HI to guy walking by.  He how is going so I told him OK, then he got into real rant about how the country is just sick and anyone that voted for Biden was stupid and F,,,,king the country and Demarcates are ruining the country.  It their fault for inflation, and we should rise up and throw them out etc. etc for about 5 minutes.  I never said anything to him about politics at all but he wanted to yell at someone and I guess because I was on a boat it seemed like I too liberal for him.  I can not believe he went off with just a simple and how’s it going.

Fort Myer’s passage was interesting lots of barge working and ferries moving people back and forth to replace some bridges.  Damage was not as bad as I expect the marinas are definitely  ruined, water front building also show signs of water damage but they were not wiped out like Mexico Beach was in 2019 and aside from no leaves on the trees even most of them seemed OK,  Once past North Fort Myers it was hard to see damage from the river.  Again closer shore inspection showed roof and water damage and marinas are mess but most of it looked repairable.
