Moore Haven to Indiantown Fl. 45 miles 2 lock and really big shallow lake.
As I said in the post yesterday Moore Haven was a little weird town to me. The MAGA people the homeless and Kids playing chicken Jumping onto the dock from shore over a 5 foot gap. Still recovering from all that.
This morning there were no weird people just me and Dianne on the dock and walking to the bathroom so at least that made me feel better.
After a breakfast of oatmeal as it was cooler this this morning off we went. The Moore Haven lock was easy and the Lock Master was friendly and spoke slowly and clearly over the radio. The only issue was the red/green light was stuck on red but we figured that out.
The crossing was windy with 10-15 knot winds and 2 foot waves when started the crossing. Dianne was white knuckled for about 1hour out of the 3 hour crossing but as the far shore was provide some lee protection by the time we reached the other shore all was good. So it started as a solid 6 and decreased to 2 on the sporting scale.
Entered the lock at Port Mayaca and there the lock master was loud and seemed to have an attitude. We had to wait at the entrance and wind was blowing me all over so I was maneuvering around to try and stay away from the gate and some where in the channel. When the doors opened and I could see a west boat was coming out. While I was trying to figure out where he was going the lock master starting telling me to stay out of the westbound boats way and not to approach the entrance till I had a green light. That was what I was trying to do as well as stay off the shoal on my right and pilings on my left. Then he was again short with the directions on what ropes to tie and when to leave the lock. Maybe it is just me.
The Indiantown Marina closed at noon but they directed Dianne on where to tie up and that we could settle up in the morning. Really a pleasant spot outside BBQ, AC and ICE. Glad we stopped and so far all the people have been really friendly.
