St. Augustine to Jacksonville Fl 44 miles
Left St Augustine with fond memories. Every time I go to St. Augustine I have enjoyed myself. We had pleasant day touring the city and seeing the sites yesterday then a very tasty meal of shared seafood platter and Nachos. Listening to people talk at the dock I found out that this is popular spot and some people come every weekend to enjoy the city. However their was an undermining message of do not stay out too late or the crazies come out. Only complaints are it has become too popular so some of the quality stores and restaurants have become a little too cheap, and there is huge group of beggars.
The ride today was a little different. The scenery is the same Florida marsh or really expensive homes. However we had contrary currents all morning then around noon the tide shifted and current became insane in our favor with a head wind. This although increases speed it creates waves head on and the ride became a little “sporty”. Couple the problems or current and wind with fools driving their boat at speed next to leaving wakes and moment it becomes terrible to drive. After 1:00 pm we started up the St. John’s river and speed dropped to gas went up and of course arrival in Jacksonville became 6:30 . A review of the map showed this was becoming a farces as we still had 15 miles to go and were going to have to back track them in the morning. Dianne came to rescue and found an anchorage at 2:30 leaving only an hour of backtracking we took it and dropped our hook in a back bay looking at a ship being loaded. After an hour of watching I am convinced the hook has taken and is holding. The winch worked great going out and lets hope it works as well coming back in. Let’s also hope the anchor light still works after all I paid for it, plus the work to install.
Well that is about the news for today. No pictures today as connection is poor. Talk soon.
